Flexible seating solutions for venues that need to do more with their space.
Hussey Seatway supplies portable seating for schools, colleges, hotels, conference facilities, sports halls and multi-use venues across the UK and internationally. Whether you need chairs that can be deployed quickly for an event, removed entirely to free the floor, or stored compactly between uses, our portable range offers a solution to suit every application, budget and venue type.
Our portfolio includes rollable floor chairs, stacking chairs, removable Logix seating, and portable tiered wagons. Every product is designed to be set up fast, stored efficiently, and built to withstand the demands of high-frequency use. All portable seating products are available with a range of upholstery, frame colours and configuration options.
Stackable Seating
Our stackable range covers stacking chairs, folding chairs and the Logix removable seating system, all designed for venues that need seating deployed quickly and stored efficiently between uses.
Stacking and folding chairs are ideal for events, conferences and multi-use halls where setup and breakdown needs to happen fast. Chairs nest onto purpose-built trolleys for compact storage and can be positioned by a small team in minutes.
The Logix system takes this a step further. Chairs are mounted on a lightweight aluminium frame that locks securely in place during use and removes cleanly when the floor is needed for other purposes, making it particularly well-suited to performance spaces, conference halls and multi-use facilities that need a more structured seating configuration.

Rollable Seating
Our rollable range includes the Rollable chair system and the Seating Wagon, both designed for venues where speed of setup and maximum floor flexibility are the priority.
The Rollable chair system connects chairs in rows that roll directly into position as a single unit, dramatically reducing event changeover times compared to chair-by-chair deployment. The system is built for high-frequency event environments where time between events is limited.
The Seating Wagon is a self-contained portable tiered unit that moves on castors and can be positioned anywhere in a venue, providing temporary tiered seating without permanent installation. Both products store compactly when not in use, returning the full floor to the venue.
Notable Installations
Our portable seating has been specified alongside retractable and fixed systems across performing arts venues, community spaces and multi-use facilities throughout the UK.
At The Cresset in Peterborough, 288 Logix seats were installed on the flat floor alongside a new retractable bank — giving the venue fast, flexible seating for events of all sizes within a single system. At the Embassy Theatre in Skegness, 200 folding chairs with complementing trolleys were supplied to allow the space to be quickly cleared for non-seated events.
Bristol Beacon is a further example of our work in flexible venue environments, combining retractable and portable solutions within a major £132m refurbishment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is portable seating and when should I use it?
Portable seating refers to chairs and seating systems that can be set up, repositioned and stored without permanent installation. It is the right choice when your venue needs to serve multiple purposes, for example, a conference hall that needs seating for an event but a clear floor for an exhibition the following day, or a school hall that hosts assemblies, performances and sports activities in the same week. Hussey Seatway offers several types of portable seating, from stacking and folding chairs to rollable systems and removable tiered wagons, depending on how often you need to configure the space and how quickly.
Q: What is the difference between portable, retractable and fixed seating?
Fixed seating is permanently installed, it is always in place and cannot be moved. Retractable seating folds away into a compact footprint at the push of a button, freeing the floor when not in use. Portable seating is completely free-standing and can be set up and stored as required, with no installation needed. Portable seating gives maximum flexibility but requires more active management. Retractable seating can offer fast, operation with less handling. Fixed seating suits venues with a single primary use. Our team can advise on which is most appropriate for your venue during a free consultation.
Q: How quickly can portable seating be set up and taken down?
Setup and breakdown times depend on the type of portable seating and the size of the configuration. Individual stacking chairs can typically be positioned by a small team in a matter of minutes. Our rollable seating system is engineered to reduce event setup times significantly compared to traditional chair-by-chair deployment, rows roll directly into position as a single unit. Portable tiered wagons take longer to position but remain a practical solution for venues that need temporary tiered seating without permanent installation.
Q: What venues are portable seating systems suitable for?
Portable seating is suitable for any venue that needs to use its floor space flexibly. Common applications include hotel and conference facilities hosting events with varying layouts, school and college halls used for assemblies, performances, examinations and sports, sports halls and leisure centres where events require temporary seating, and performing arts venues needing additional or overflow capacity. Our range covers a variety of capacities and styles to suit everything from a small meeting room to a large multi-purpose hall.
Q: Do portable seating products comply with UK safety standards?
Yes. All Hussey Seatway portable seating products conform to relevant British and European standards for strength, stability and fire retardancy. Our products and installations comply with all relevant legislations applicable to public seating in the UK. Full details of our accreditations and standards compliance are available on our accreditations page.
Q: How much space do I need to store portable seating?
Most venues have a dedicated storage area or cupboard for portable seating. For stacking chairs, we can provide storage trolleys that hold up to 10–20 chairs each, helping to maximise storage efficiency and reduce the required floor space.
Storage requirements will vary depending on the quantity and type of seating. Some venues, such as Bristol Beacon, use existing facilities like platform lifts to transport and store rollable seating in lower-level storage areas, keeping event spaces clear when the seating is not in use.
